UX Design Patterns in our 3 app ideas


Representing the Self – the user can view a graph with his own photo in center and surrounded by his friends or enemies and after the user connects to the bluetooth device, on the main screen he can observe his one profile highlighted for several seconds.

User Engagement – the application’s flow with the sign in – choose frienemies – contact them increases the engagement by making the system smarter. The cold start is avoided with the help of our application’s logo. It is funny and makes you interested in what is behind the first page. The flow is whitout any unnecessary loops so that the user will not have difficulties in managing the application. This thing encourage people to be early adopters. Because each person has his own account and his enemies don’t know theirs status for  him, resolves the privacy problems.

Identity – by having a visual representation of his social status ( how many friends – how many enemies) a user can define his own identity regarding Frenemies.

Presence – the application offers the possibility to connect with different accounts. For example if you choose Facebook, you have the possibility to appear online or to be invisible for example by choosing to continue without sharing.

User identity – after choosing his friends and his enemies, after interacting in different ways, the user creates an identity within the context of the application.

Identity/contact cards – used to offer additional information about a user,allowing the possibility to subscribe to, follow,connect to, unsubscribe, block the user- when the user comes near to an enemy the smart phone will vibrate ( a long vibration). Also, you can find out about the common interests with a certain person.

Avatars -giving a visual representation for an online identify“Profile pictures – or avatars, in online parlance –show people at our thinnest, handsomest, most fun.”(Gillian Reagan, 2008) – the application allows you to have a avatar when you sign in. You have the possibility for example to choose between the pictures you have on Facebook or the one that you have on Twitter.

Relationships -the ability to find friends and make them a part of user circle for participation is one of the key interactionsto design when building a social application – you can interact with people who have the same interest points. The interaction part is well put by the word „Interact” . It appears on the screen with the list of possibilities of interaction types: you can Call, Tweet, Poke or Add as a friend .

Face-to-face meeting -helps to facilitate face-to-face meetings between people – if you like someone’s profile and you wwant to meet him/her , you can put an alert on him/her  and when you are near him/her the smart phone will make a short vibration. This way you will know that you are close to him/her.

Be a Game – by default this application takes you in a real life Pacman. You can avoid the „monsters” that want to „kill” you and you can take the „ points” by interacting with the people you like.


Other people’s advice “What did everyone else say about this?” –  the application offers the possibility to connect via social networks. In this way the user can take advices from other people/friends about a certain place where he is thinking of going.

Software as a human– the application is a friendly one. It’s like looking at a map. The extra information that helps you make a decision uses a proper language that makes the user  feel at ease when „communicationg” with the QRPlaces.

No joking around –the sense of humor is a unique thing in each person and this is an application that uses this pattern. The QRPlaces is used for orientation ( it’s purpose is to help you with direction and information about certain locations, not to make you laugh).

Sign-in -you can connect to Facebook via the application. In this way you are not obligated to leave personal data if you don’t want to.

Participation to events support for activities on user real location: Being local – QRPlaces uses GPS location. In this way it lays out only the location that surrounds you so you don’t have to take unnecessary steps to get what you want.

Recommendations – recommendations push objects toward people rather than relying on them to be passively discovered – in our mockups for example, the cinemas appear from the start. In this way, they attract attention towards them.

Social Speed

Your versus My – is used to label items that imitates the user’s point of view „My Interests” vs „Your match”. The user has already established his/hers interests, but when it comes to matching  he has the chance to choose, to change his/her mind.

Software as a human – when it comes to meeting new people, the user has to have a relaxed approach. The human-like conversation that the user has with the application is achieved by using a „talking like a person” language. By using the common language, the application creates a proper enviroment for a private discution with the user.

No joking around – taking into account that this is a „speed based application”, there is no time for joking around. If the application would use jokes every once in a while, because meeting new persons is a bit of a stressful activity, the user would maybe feel  embarrassed.

Representing the Self –  on the desktop part, the user has the possibility to see himself beside the other members that are on his side.

Sign-in- delay – the sign-in requirement until the last possible moment .First you choose a bluetooth hotspot,  after that you select your gender and your interest,  after that you select if you want to connect to a social network and after that you have to sign-in.

User identity – through choosing your gender and „Interested in” you create an identity into the application environment.

Identity/Contact cards – used to offer additional information about a user,allowing the possibility to subscribe to, follow,connect to, unsubscribe, block the user – the app gives the user topics for discussion based on the common preferences of him and another person.  You then have the possibility to choose if you want to Accept him/her as a friend or refuse.

Avatars -giving a visual representation for an online identify“Profile pictures – or avatars, in online parlance –show people at our thinnest, handsomest, most fun.”(Gillian Reagan, 2008) – you have the possibility to choose an avatar. This offers a personal approach when interacting with others via the app.

Feedback soliciting feedback from people, no matter the form, is one of the easiest ways to engage a community – having the possibility to connect with people on Facebook and Twitter and share the experience and opinions about certain persons, you practically offer a feedback to that group. Also, if a person wants to continue a meeting with you or end it, you also get an indirect feedback.

Relationships – the main purpose of the app is to help people find new friends and make them a part their user circle. This is one of the key in building a social application like this one.

Face-to-face meeting – the application does the matching but after that, the two persons must meet  face-to-face for just a couple of minutes.

Be a Game – because it’s an application with a time limit, this creates the impression that you are in a competition.

Welcome area – provides the new user with a welcome message ( „Welcome”) and it presents an important feature, namely the Bluetooth hotspots that are available.
